Excursion to Segovia
Segovia is a short excursion from Madrid. It is a beautiful, vibrant city which epitomises Old Castile. Although only a small town, it has a remarkable number of outstanding architectural monuments and is a popular weekend destination for Madrileños seeking the traditional Castilian culinary specialities of conchinillo asado (roast suckling pig) and cordero asado (roast lamb).
Having stopped briefly at a panoramic viewing point to the north of the city we will visit the 13th century church of Vera Cruz which lies below the main city. From here we head into the Plaza Mayor, at the heart of the old town, which is shadowed by the 16th century Gothic cathedral. The city’s major attraction which spans 800m across the Plaza del Azoguejo is the Roman aqueduct which is one the the finest and best-preserved examples of its kind. This marvel has stood here for around 2000 years without any mortar to support it. The other principal attraction is the Alcázar (fortress) which dates back to the 14th century and was the fortified palace of the kings of Castile. In more recent times it has acted as the model on which Disney based his fairy-tale castle.

Excursion to El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen
Daily excursions to El Escorial are available from Madrid travelling by private vehicle with chauffeur or by luxury coach.
Felipe II’s monastery- palace of El Escorial is one of Spain’s most famous sights. A few kilometres away El Valle De Los Caídos (Valley of the Fallen) is a monument built by prisoners from both sides in the Civil War under orders from Franco.
In reality, it is more a memorial to the General and his regime. Franco is buried here alongside José Antonio Prima De Vera, his right hand man, and it is no coincidence that this site was chosen so close to Royal El Escorial as an attempt at glorifying the regime.
To commemorate the battle of "San Quintin" and to locate the remains of his dead father (Charles V) Philip II ordered the construction of El Escorial Monastery, considered as a temple, austere Royal residence and Pantheon for Kings. The Monastery is a real symbol of Spanish power from the XVI Century.
The construction was focussing on sense, symmetry and balance, keeping in all cases the exposure for the Renaissance style. The pictorial and sculptural importance is also great. Your experience guide will take you for a tour to Austria's Palace, Pantheons of Kings and Infants, Chapters Rooms and Basilica.
Located 9km north of El Escorial lies the Valley of the Fallen (Valle de Los Caidos), a vast Basilica (262 meters long) excavated from the inside of a mountain, on top of which looms a gigantic granite cross standing at 150 meters high.
This monument was built by General Franco to remember the dead of Spain's Civil War.

Excursion to Toledo
Toledo was the capital of medieval Spain until 1560 and to this day remains one of the country’s greatest cities where the Jewish, Moorish and Christian cultures once lived together in relative harmony. Nowadays Toledo is a living museum of synagogues, mosques and churches which provide outstanding architectural diversity throughout the city.
Among the most famous sights of Toledo is the quite spectacular Gothic cathedral which, having taken over 250 years to complete, displays magnificent architecture from the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods.
The imposing Alcazár (fortress) has played an active part in the city’s history and has been destroyed on a number of occasions, the most recent being in 1936 during the Republican siege of Franco’s forces.
Artistically, Toledo is famous for the paintings of El Greco who settled there in 1577 and whose works are scattered around the city. His masterpiece El Entierro del Conde de Orgaz (The Burial of Count Orgaz) can be seen in the Iglesia de Santo Tomé.
In 1986 Toledo was declared a monument of world interest to humanity by UNESCO.
